Having trouble? We want to help! If you've got a problem then the following FAQ might be of some use. If not, please contact us either at info@quickka.com or try our Live Chat and we will do our best to get you back on track quickly.
Basics
QuickkaCalories comes in three flavours PRO, Calories and Weight Mate. To check out how they differ and why you should get yourself one of them, please click here.
What does the Home screen do?
QuickkaCalories "Home" is designed to give you an overview of your daily calorie intake, exercise and current weight. Tapping "Calories Consumed" and "Calories Burnt" will give you more information.
You can also get additional daily information under "Detail" (a high level breakdown of the day's calorie intake), "Reports" (a detailed breakdown which includes your remaining calorie and nutrient budget – this is a guide only!) and "Charts" (which show monthly and yearly changes for both Weight and BMI). Tapping the calendar icon on these screens will let you select a date to check past performance!
How do I enter food details?
Hit "Food". From there you can enter food directly via tapping the time of day meal options (Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner), enter a drink, a snack or a fast food restaurant. You can also hit the "+" symbol in the top right. This gives you three options for PRO: (1) From List, (2) Enter Manually, (3) Scan Barcode. QuickkaCalories comes without the barcode scanner and will only give you the first two options. Please note that you can't enter food details from the "Home" – "Details" screen as this is a report only screen.
How do I delete or amend a food item I've previously entered?
Once you have entered a food item, go to the relevant time of day (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner), select the relevant day, hit "Edit" in the top right and then delete the food you no longer wish to count, then hit "Done". If you just need to amend the quantity, include or remove from favourites or change the time of day for that food, tap the food item and amend directly on that screen. Don't forget to hit "Done"!
Where is the Food Scan function?
Quickka Calories PRO (not available on the iTouch) has a built in food scanner so you can scan the nutrient information from our database of over 20,000 food items. Hit "Food" then "+" in the top right.
My Barcode wont scan! Why?
Make sure you are using an iPhone. QuickkaCalories PRO doesn't work with camera-less iTouch devices. The scan functionality is also much better with the iPhone 3G and 4G which have higher resolution cameras.
Then make sure you are scanning a UPC-A , UPC-E code or EAN (12/13 digits). We don't presently support other barcode formats.
If you are able to scan a food item but the app returns with "No Food Found" it's likely that we have not yet included it in our database! We have over 20,000 individual food items detailing the most commonly requested nutrient information – calories, carbohydrate (sugars), fats (including saturated fats), fibre, protein and salt content. If its not here, and you need it, please let us know and we will try to ensure its included. Alternatively, we'd love your help – you can click here and help us build the database!
If you having trouble getting the scanner to lock on the barcode, please make sure that:
- The barcode is upright and located between the edges of the on screen arrows.
- Try to avoid glare and shadows.
What is the Eatwell Plate?
The eatwell plate makes healthy eating easier to understand by showing the types and proportions of foods we typically need to have a healthy and well balanced diet. The eatwell plate shows how much of what you eat should come from each food group and will dynamically update as you enter foods into QuickkaCalories.
You should try to eat:
- Plenty of fruit and vegetables.
- Plenty of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods – choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can.
- Some milk and dairy foods.
- Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein.
- Just a small amount of food and drinks high in fat and/or sugar.
You don't need to get the balance right at every meal. But try to get it right over time such as a whole day or week. Try to choose options that are lower in fat, salt and sugar when you can.
How do I enter weight details?
Hit "Weight". You can change your weight for today by tapping the white weight amount directly or via the "+" symbol in the top right. To change your weight for any prior date, just use the date picker to select a date and change it there. The app will automatically save these changes and will update your BMI as well.
What is my BMI?
Body Mass Index is a measure of someone's weight in relation to height . It is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters. As a general rule:
- Under Weight < 18.4
- Ideal 18.5 - 24.9
- Over Weight 25 - 29.9
- Obese > 30
How does the goal weight work?
QuickkaCalories lets you set a goal weight ("Weight"- "Goal Weight") and set a date for the gain or loss. From there it will tell you how much you need to gain or lose (in total and per day), including the per day calories. If you then check the "Home" and "Reports" screens you will see an amended daily target consumption.
Can I convert my measurements and units from metric to imperial?
Sure. Tap "Profile" and go to "General". This will automatically update your weight and height.
QuickkaCalories feels slow or crashes. What can I do?
Quickka are constantly working on improving QuickkaCalories, so make sure to check for updates. There are a few things that can help improve performance:
- Make sure you have the latest updates – both the software version of your iPhone and QuickkaCalories/PRO from iTunes.
- Restart your device. Press and hold the button at the top of your iPhone or iPod touch until the red slider appears, prompting you to turn the power off.
- Go easy on network activity. Under Settings, turn off Wi-Fi. For Fetch New Data, select "Manually" instead of Push or automatic fetching.
- Make sure your battery is fully charged. As your battery gets lower, performance gets worse.
- Make sure you're not using a Jail broken device. Jail breaking impacts performance.
- Make sure your device is not overloaded. As you fill your device with music, videos and apps, it may get slower.
How can I sync with my computer?
Quickka are planning to release a web version of the app to allow you to sync your data with your own online account. We've built the functionality within both QuickkaCalories and QuickkaCalories PRO under "Profile"- "Sync" so that they are both future proof. We will update via Twitter and this Site as soon as we are ready to go live!
Is QuickkaCalories available on any other mobile platform?
Not right now but we are looking into this development for Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile. We will update via Twitter and this Site as soon as we have any news!
How do I delete QuickkaCalories from my device?
Are you insane? Ok - to delete an app just hold it down for two seconds and push the "x" out. Deleting the app will delete all your QuickkaCalories information so make sure you seek some professional advice first.
Are there any instructional videos for QuickkaCalories?
No. Not yet, but it's a good idea. When we take a break from entering new barcodes we will provide a short demo video. QuickkaCalories has a lot of functionality packed into a little app so we want to help you to get the most out of it...
Happy counting!
Love, the Quickka Team.
